FAQ

Is this your real job / are you paid to do this?

There is no revenue tied to this site or the activities mentioned within. Everything you see here is planned, paid for, and carried out, independently. I’ve never sought out sponsors because I’d rather use the gear I like and not be tied to endorsements that I don’t believe in. That being said, I have a day job that keeps me busy so I probably wouldn’t have time to fulfill the obligations required of a sponsorship anyway. On the bright side, it means that everything you read here is based on my own thoughts and experience. I’m not bound by an affiliation with any product or brand.

Where do you get the pictures for your site?

There are four pictures on the site that I did not take myself (though I am in them): the Home page, the “Developing a System” post, and the first two pictures on the “Photos” page. They were taken by my friend and occasional hiking partner, Sam. Everything else is my work.

Do you sell prints?

I do not currently sell prints but I may consider it in the future. I’m still relatively new to the whole photography thing and I definitely do not have fancy equipment. All of my pictures have been taken on a point-and-shoot of some variety (although the more recent pictures were taken with a Sony RX-100 M3, so you can debate whether that’s fancy or not).

If you’re interested in anything you see here, please let me know. If I receive enough feedback I may move forward with something sooner rather than later. In the meantime, I may be able to accommodate special requests on a case-by-case basis.

Is your trail name really IamSPOTicus?

If pressed, I will sometimes say my trail name is SPOTicus… but I usually just go by Dave since that’s the name I’ve been responding to for my entire life. I don’t have anything against trail names; I’m just not accustomed to using one. But I couldn’t just call my site “Dave’s Homepage”.
